Angela Hughes Singleton is a wife, mother of two daughters, and children's advocate who resides in Woodruff, SC. She is an honors graduate of Blue Ridge High School and Magna Cum Laude graduate of Anderson College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Concentrating in Fashion Merchandising.
Angela has been recognized for service to her community as the recipient of News Channel 7's Caring for the Carolina's Award, Miss Greater Greer Scholarship Organization's Hall of Honor and Woman of Achievement, Anderson College Alumni Service Award, and nominee for the Jefferson Award for Public Service. |
Over the past twelve years, Angela has researched self-esteem and its effect on childhood development while sharing her personal story, "The Power of Self-esteem," at community events and over two hundred sixty school assemblies. She serves as a Spokesperson and Honorary Board Member for the National Association for Self-Esteem. Angela promoted self-esteem issues as Mrs. South Carolina America 2005 and Miss South Carolina 1996 competing in both the Miss America and Mrs. America Pageants. She received national and state endorsement for creating, funding, and launching Project ESTEEM: Encouraging Success Through Education & Empowerment Materials with the South Carolina State Department of Education to foster positive self-esteem, literacy, and parent-to-child interaction. Over three hundred primary/elementary schools received resource materials through this program including Coach John Wooden's Inch and Miles: The Journey to Success and two hundred twenty-four thousand bookmarks featuring a top ten list of children's books about self-esteem Angela compiled. Project ESTEEM has been praised by the National Association for Self-esteem, Character Education Partnership, Boys and Girls Clubs, legendary author/coach, John Wooden, South Carolina Superintendent of Education, Inez Tenenbaum, and South Carolina Governor, Mark Sanford, who proclaimed February 19-25, 2006 "Project ESTEEM Week."
Angela has served pediatric cancer families since 2004 through numerous nonprofit organizations as a volunteer, children's liaison, and public relations coordinator. She is the South Carolina Director for Queen for a Day/Heroes whose mission is to raise the self-esteem of pediatric cancer patients. Angela works with local children's hospitals to plan events including parties, conferences, and visits with queens and rescue personnel for these special children.
She currently works as the Spartanburg County School Coordinator for Zig the Pig, promoting pediatric cancer education and awareness. Zig's School Adoption Campaign enlists schools to raise money for Children's Chance, a SC organization focused on helping children with cancer and their families with nonmedical needs. Angela is also a dance instructor for Rhythms Dance School and an active member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Greer, SC.
She has most recently prepared for a personal development summer course for girls in Reidville, SC entitled "Making the Best of Me" during which young ladies ages 6-11 will participate in sessions focused on Self-Esteem, Fitness, Etiquette, Basic Modeling Technique, and Community Service issues.
